Inhibition of saccade initiation improves saccade accuracy: The role of local and remote visual distractors in the control of saccadic eye movements

When a distractor appears close to the target location, saccades are less accurate. However, presence of further distractor, remote from those stimuli, increases saccade response latency and improves accuracy. Explanations for this either that second, impacts directly on selection processes or merely impairs ability initiate changes time at which unaffected accessed. In order tease these two explanations apart, here we examine relationship between accuracy pair while variable distance. Accuracy improvements found follow similar pattern, regardless suggests effect is not result direct impact process. Our findings support proposal saccade, meaning competition accessed later time, thus resulting in more accurate saccades.
